- Trust Deed Review - call for submissions
A key agenda item at our Hui-ā-Iwi on Saturday 8 November was the upcoming review of our Trust Deed. As background, our Trust Deed must be reviewed periodically to remain fit for purpose. Clause 32.3 of our Trust Deed states: “The Trustees shall, within four (4) years of the Settlement Date, initiate a review of the terms and operation of this Deed and, in particular, shall review the arrangements relating to the election of Trustees and all other aspects of the representation of Ngāti Rangitihi by the Trust.” Since the Ngāti Rangitihi Claims Settlement Act 2022 date of assent was 18 March 2022, our Trust Deed review therefore must be completed by 22 March 2026 . So, what happens now? We need to conduct a Trust Deed Review process: This means engaging and consulting with Ngāti Rangitihi to seek the views of Ngāti Rangitihi on the terms and operation of the Deed. The Review is to be independently facilitated. An independent facilitator will: liaise with the Trustees in the preparation of discussion materials facilitate hui; receive, compile, and review written submissions received from Ngāti Rangitihi; and make recommendations to Trustees regarding amendments that should be made to the Deed. We’ll share the outcome of review: The Trustees will recommend amendments to the Deed and seek approval by Special Resolution. This means we will take any proposed changes to Ngāti Rangitihi Iwi for endorsement. This will take place at our Annual General Meeting on Sunday 15 February 2026. Call for submissions As part of the Trust Deed Review process, we are calling for written submissions from our registered members on proposed changes to the Trust Deed. We want to hear from you – your views and ideas matter to us. Please email your submissions to Alana Hunter, Kaiwhakahaere Matua/Operations Manager, at alana@ngatirangitihi.iwi.nz by 16 January 2026. For reference, our Trust Deed can be accessed here . A summary of proposed changes so far and their impacts can be accessed here .
