Toi Te Kupu - Te Reo ClassesĀkona te reo rangatira! - Learn our language!
As part of the Trust's work to promote the cultural development and education of Ngāti Rangitihi, we are proud to support the establishment of Toi Te Kupu - a course in Te Reo Māori designed to promote and
enhance the use of Te Reo Māori within the Matatā community.
Toi Te Kupu is a fun and dynamic way to learn Te Reo Māori within a safe, supportive learning environment. Based at Rangitihi Marae, the course is suitable for all ages no matter what your current ability or background. Read more about how you can get involved in Toi Te Kupu below. |
Toi Te Kupu
Course Objective: To promote and enhance Te Reo Maori within the Matatā community by providing an active learning environment within and beyond the marae.
Program: The foundation stones of this course are community spirit and fun. Therefore an integral feature of the course will be learning through the medium of games and practical activities that can be shared with tamariki in the home and at work.
Waiata is another fun medium for learning Te Reo Māori that will also be integrated into the course. Directed learning will take place one night per week (Tuesday evening), but unlike other Te Reo programs, it will focus strongly on taking Te Reo out of the classrooms and into our homes, recreational areas and workplaces.
Evening classes will be complimented by wānanga (live-in) to be held at various locations throughout the district and will include practical activities, using our reo in everyday situations. All learners are welcome regardless of previous experience and every effort will be made to cater for all levels of understanding, as well as participants' personal learning needs.
Facilitator: Krishna Smith
Where: St Joseph's Catholic School, Matatā (Term 3)
When: Tuesdays from 9 August, 2011
Time: 6.00pm-8.30pm
