Investment Philosophy - Te Mahi Pakihi
As a result of the CNI settlement, CNI Iwi Holdings Ltd is now the largest owner of forests land in New Zealand. There are huge opportunities emerging in the international forestry industry as well as in geothermal energy generation and carbon management and Te Mana o Ngāti Rangitihi Trust is going to do its best to capture these opportunities for the benefit of our iwi and future generations. We are already part of some exciting commercial opportunities through our shareholding in CNI Iwi Holdings Limited and investment in commercial development company, Tukia Group, and its associated activities.
Our work has been firmly grounded by the core long-term objective of the CNI collective – to provide our people with a strong and sustainable economic future. As an indigenous entity, we have a long-term investment view. We are not looking to make a quick profit and exit; rather we acknowledge some of our best opportunities take time to develop and we are prepared to embark on such investments and see them through. This may result in some trade-offs in the short term, such as immediate job creation, but we are confident that these will be more than offset by the sustainable benefits that are obtained over the long-term.
