Taura Here - Developing Ngāti Rangitihi Regional Roopu
Te Mana o Ngāti Rangitihi Trust is committed and determined to see the establishment of a wider Ngāti Rangitihi iwi network as part of our aim to enable Ngāti Rangitihi to flourish in perpetuity supported by their unique self-determining capabilities.
We are currently developing a plan for engagement with our regional roopu all across Aotearoa, with particular focus on the Auckland, Wellington, Rotorua and Christchurch regions. In the interim we will actively encourage and support groups outside the areas who wish to attend a series of Wananga.
Key objectives for developing regional roopu or Taura Here:
Ø To ensure programs tailored to the priorities of iwi affiliates living in each of the main centres throughout Aotearoa.
Ø To foster the confidence and deliver the necessary support to ensure passionate Ngāti Rangitihi individuals are given the opportunity to develop initiatives which serve not only their whānau, but their iwi and the wider community.
Ø To identify effective initiatives / individuals around which to build structure and support
Ø To provide the protection and support for Ngāti Rangitihi individuals/ whanau to ‘emerge' in serving their iwi and their community.
If you are Ngāti Rangitihi living outside the tribal rohe and would like for us to support the establishment of a Taura Here in your region, please contact us.

Taura Here: Ngāti Rangitihi ki Ōtautahi (Christchurch whānau)
Te Mana o Ngāti Rangitihi Trust is currently developing a network for our Ngāti Rangitihi ki Ōtautahi whānau where members are able to maintain contact and develop suitable initiatives that will, in many ways, benefit them in the long-term.
The effects of the Christchurch earthquake and recurring aftershocks have not only been disastrous, but they have highlighted an opportunity for our iwi members living in Christchurch to unite under a common Kaupapa. Te Mana o Ngāti Rangitihi Trust realises the importance of maintaining such connections, and is committed to helping our Ngāti Rangitihi ki Ōtautahi whānau form a support net that allows them to keep in touch with home.
On June 2nd, 2011 Tautoko Ōtautahi project leader, Erana Leaf and Communications Officer Oriini Tipene-Leach met with a core group of Ngāti Rangitihi iwi members currently residing in Christchurch. This was to be the first of many frequent hui - Kanohi ki te Kanohi - between Te Mana o Ngāti Rangitihi Trust and Ngāti Rangitihi ki Ōtautahi whānau.
The hui allowed everyone the opportunity to whakawhanaunga, with most members having met for the very first time. This then gave way to an open forum where iwi members shared their compelling stories with our staff; paramount to the development of the Christchurch Earthquake Assistance Fund.
Here, the Trust wishes to acknowledge all those that attended the hui on 2 June, including Rahera Falwasser, John Fraser, Sonny Hawthorne, Lianne Hawthorne, Kim Hawthorne, Erwin Hawthorne and Nikki Clarke.
A special mihi also to Rahera Falwasser for inviting the Trust and Ngāti Rangitihi ki Ōtautahi whānau to your home, and for guiding the Trust throughout their noho in Christchurch. E kore e mutu ngā mihi.
