The Māori Education Trust 2018 Scholarship Programme is now open and offers scholarships to Māori secondary school and tertiary students who meet the respective scholarship’s criteria.

The Scholarship Programme is made up of the following scholarships:


Secondary:

Rose Hellaby Scholarship | $500 | 80 recipients
To assist Year 9 Māori students with the purchase of school uniform or textbooks. Available to students with demonstrated financial need, academic ability and aptitude.

RJ Graham Scholarship | $500 | 40 recipients
Available to Year 12 and Year 13 Māori students with academic merit studying Te Reo Māori and either mathematics, information technology or science.

Sister Annie Henry Scholarship (open to secondary and tertiary) | $700 | 1 recipient (in total, at Secondary or Tertiary level)
Available to a Māori student who is a direct descendant of Reverend John George Laughton or of Tūhoe descent, to assist with education or training costs.

VW & LM Rosier Scholarship | $500 | 6 recipients
Available to Year 13 Māori students with academic merit, studying mathematics and two science subjects at NCEA Level 3 (or higher).

Tī Maru Māori Trust Secondary Boarding Scholarship | $1,000 | 20 recipients
Available to Year 9 Māori students with demonstrated financial need, academic ability and aptitude, who wish to attend a secondary boarding school.


Undergraduate:

Frances Irwin Hunt Art Scholarship | $3,500 | 6 recipients
Available to full-time Māori undergraduate students studying in the fields of performing or cultural arts at a recognised New Zealand tertiary institute. Priority will be given to students with leadership skills and academic merit.

Nicholas Irwin Hunt Writing Scholarship | $3,500 | 3 recipients
Available to full-time Māori undergraduate writers (with preference to those studying in the field of journalism). Priority will be given to students with leadership skills, proven writing ability and academic merit.

Norman Kirk Memorial Scholarship (will be confirmed November 2017) | $500 | 20 recipients
Available to full-time Māori undergraduate students studying at a recognised New Zealand tertiary institute. Priority will be given to students with financial need and academic merit. (to be confirmed)

Rose Hellaby Bursaries Scholarship | $1,000 | 30 recipients
Available to full-time Māori undergraduate students studying to become qualified or employed in a profession or calling which includes scientific, mathematical or technical skills. Priority will be given to students with academic merit and leadership.

Roy Watling Mitchell Bursaries Scholarship |$1,000 | 24 recipients
Available to first-year full-time Māori undergraduate students who attended secondary school as a Year 13 student in 2017. Priority will be given to students with academic merit and financial need.

Sir Apirana Ngata Memorial Scholarship | $1,000 | 1 recipient
Available to a full-time Māori undergraduate student studying at a recognised New Zealand tertiary institute, who attended Ngata Memorial College as a Year 13 student in 2017. Priority will be given to a student with academic merit.

Tī Maru Māori Trust Scholarship | $5,000 | 3 recipients
Available to full-time Māori undergraduate students enrolled in their final year of study at a recognised New Zealand tertiary institute. Priority will be given to students with academic merit.


Postgraduate:

Eric Hall McCormick Scholarship | $7,500 | 1 recipient
Available to a Māori student undertaking research at postgraduate level in a field which is of significant benefit to Māori. Priority will be given to a student attending the University of Auckland.

Pae Tawhiti Scholarship | PhD $25,000 | 1 recipient || Masters $10,000 | 1 recipient (conditions apply)
These scholarships are available to Māori students with a record of proven academic excellence, demonstrated commitment to te ao Māori, undertaking Masters or PhD postgraduate study in a health related degree with a research focus on Hauora Māori. Study must be carried out in New Zealand. Preference will be given to those students of Ngāti Hauiti descent.

Queen Elizabeth II Postgraduate Fellowship | $5,000 | 1 recipient
Available to a Māori or non-Māori graduate with excellent academic ability, who plans to research at postgraduate level, in a field that will benefit Māori.

Rangiriri and Mātene Te Whiwhi Winiata Scholarship | $5,000 | 2 recipients
Available to Māori graduates to enable them to complete postgraduate studies. Prerequisite is completion of a master’s degree.

Rose Hellaby Postgraduate Scholarship | Up to $30,000 | 2 recipients (conditions apply)
These prestigious scholarships are available to Māori students with a record of proven academic excellence, undertaking Masters or PhD postgraduate study in the fields of engineering, mathematics, science, technology or medicine. Study can be carried out in New Zealand or overseas.

Roy Watling Mitchell Prestigious Professions Scholarship | $5,000 | 1 recipient
Available to a Māori graduate with a record of academic excellence.

Available to Māori graduates with a record of academic excellence.


Certificates, National Certificates and Diplomas:

Regina Rudland Memorial Scholarship | $500 | 1 recipient
This scholarship is available to a full-time Māori student of Ngāti Porou descent, undertaking study in the field of Agriculture or Apiculture at Level 3 or higher. Priority will be given to those with demonstrated financial need.
