Innovative
Kāinga Kōrerorero is a programme that supports whānau members to speak Māori to each other in the home. Mentors will be assigned to work with whānau members to identify what they want to learn and how they like to learn. All mentors are all fluent Māori speakers with exceptional skills in teaching. They will provide information to whānau on the best ways to learn a second language and help to create a supportive environment for learners to speak Māori.
The focus of this Programme is on the learning needs of the whānau. Mentors will work with fluent speakers to raise their awareness of the challenges second language learners face. The mentors role is to provide information and advisory support, not teach te reo Māori. Language resources will be developed and others adapted to suit the learner's needs.
