Top Speakers For Māori-Led Conference 10/04/2012
Prominent New Zealanders and Māori academics will be speaking at this month’s Tauranga conference for Bay of Plenty Māori.
The one-day conference, Te Tōanga Mai o Te Rā, or ‘the rising of the sun’, is hosted by Bay of Plenty Regional Council and is being held at Tauranga’s TECT Arena Baypark on Monday, 23 April. The Environment Court's granted Bay of Plenty Regional Council permission to operate Lake Rotoiti's Okere Gates.
Following a negotiated agreement between several parties, it's approved the resource consent for both the Gates and Ohau Weir on Lake Rotorua. Registered iwi members over the age of 15 years are being encouraged to apply now for a 2012 Recreational Permit, which gives them access to the Kaingaroa and Rotoehu forests during the hunting, fishing and game bird season.
